FAQ's

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions.  Feel free to contact us if you don't see your question answered.

Q-What is a hand-turned pen?

  • A hand-turned pen is a writing instrument crafted by hand on a lathe. Paul turns each pen individually and uses wood and resin.

Q-What types of wood does Paul use in his products?

  • Paul uses several exotic woods to include Authentic Bethlehem Olivewood, Purpleheart, Zebrawood, and Bubinga.  He also uses several hardwoods to like Oak, Maple, Walnut, and Butternut. Paul has been known to have cut up our headboard and used the wood for his products.

Q-Are hand-turned pens comfortable to write with?

  • Yes, hand-turned pens are designed with ergonomics in mind, providing a comfortable grip and smooth writing experience.

 Q-Are the pens refillable?

  • Yes, they are designed for long-lasting enjoyment. The type of refill your pen requires depends on the specific pen model. Stylus pens generally use Cross refills, while most other pens (excluding the Jr. Gentlemen) use Parker refills.

Q-What color ink do the pens come with?

  • All of our hand turned pens come to you with black ink.

Q-Does the pens come with a gift box?

  • All of our hand turned pens come in a cardboard window box.  It not only makes delivery safer, but will be easier to wrap when giving as a gift.

Q-How do I care for my hand-turned pen?

  • Keep your pen away from extreme temperatures and moisture. Clean it with a soft cloth and avoid using harsh chemicals. Store it in a protective case when not in use.

Q-How long do hand-turned pens last?

  • With proper care, a hand-turned pen can last for many years, providing a durable and reliable writing instrument.

Q-Why should I choose a hand-turned pen over a mass-produced pen?

  • Hand-turned pens offer unique craftsmanship, personalized design, and superior quality compared to mass-produced pens. Each pen is a one-of-a-kind piece, often with a story behind its creation.

Q-What forms of payments do you use?

    • We accept all major credit cards as well as PayPal. If you are local we also will accept cash.

Q- Do you ship out of the United States?

    • Currently, we are only shipping in the United States.

Q- Do you make custom orders?

    • Yes, we do, but realize we cannot tell what a product will look like until it is turned by Paul. All custom orders will need to be paid before Paul will turn out the product.  It also will take 2 weeks before we will be able to ship out.

Q- Can you make a custom order using my own wood?

    • Yes we can.  You should be aware that we do not guarantee items that are made from your own wood (that was shipped to us).  All wood needs to be dried or else it will split when the pen ages. Feel free to reach out to us for further discussions about this topic.

Q-How did Aleta get into using resin?

    • Paul and Aleta used to buy what we call premade resin blanks.  The product we were using was very brittle and would break very easily.
    • Aleta started researching different resins and experimented until she found the perfect one.  There were several failed attempts until she found the one that we currently use. As Paul would say "it turns like butter" which is a good thing. We also love supporting other small businesses, and the resin she now uses comes from an independent businessperson.
